Former SEC standout predicts the winner of Oklahoma vs. UGA

The Oklahoma Sooners face a major test against the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs in Athens on Saturday. The Bulldogs have been the gold standard of the SEC, winning the last two conference titles and three of the last four.

Oklahoma was once the gold standard of college football; however, they have fallen in the last few years. But after making the College Football Playoff last season, it felt like the tide was beginning to turn for Oklahoma. However, after a 2-1 start, the optimism is starting to dwindle.

A win against Georgia could go a long way in reigniting that optimism. But college football analyst David Pollack feels the Bulldogs will narrowly edge out Oklahoma on Saturday.

"I think this is a lot closer game," Pollack said on 'See Ball Get Ball with David Pollack.' "I think Oklahoma's offense is going to have some success. But 27-20, Dogs."

Pollack's prediction is notable because it doesn't call for another offensive collapse from the Sooners. Oklahoma has averaged just 25 points per game through three contests, compared with Georgia's 59.3, but Pollack expects the Sooners to find enough success to stay competitive.

That would be a significant development for Oklahoma. The Sooners have struggled to run the football consistently, while quarterback John Mateer has also dealt with turnovers and uneven stretches. Against Georgia, however, Oklahoma will need to sustain drives and capitalize on the opportunities its defenses create.

If the Sooners can match the level of competitiveness Pollack predicts, and especially if the offense finally produces against an elite opponent, they could leave Athens with more than just a close game. They could leave with reason to believe the season is still headed in the right direction.
