Franklin football coach Todd Kiley called senior captain Alex Weber "exactly who you want representing this program," before the 2025 season.
"From the way he leads by example, the way he leads vocally," Kiley said. "He just does everything the right way."
Now Weber will have a new program to set an example for after he committed to play Division 1 football at Stonehill, Weber announced on Instagram on Friday. He thanked his parents and coaches for their time and commitment.
The running back and linebacker was the Hockomock League Defensive player of the Year this fall and a two-time Hockomock all-star. He ran the ball 136 times for 857 yards and 14 touchdowns, adding 398 yards and a touchdown through the air.
He led Franklin to the Division 1 postseason and a four-game winning streak during the season.
“It seemed like a place where the coaching staff had been around for a while and is there to stay – major investments into athletics not just in football but into other sports as well,” Weber said. “I got to spend time with the players and really enjoyed the type of guys who will become my teammates and the culture.”
Skyhawks coach Eli Gardner is a Western New England grad and has been with the program for 18 years – the past 11 as the head coach.
Weber liked that it was close enough to home so that his parents could easily watch him play. The school also balances a Division 1 football experience with the personality of a small school.
“I’m not just another number on a student ID in the sense that I feel supported by the school as an individual,” Weber said.
Weber will join his former teammate Julian Rampino with the Skyhawks. Other former MetroWest football stars at Stonehill include Lincoln-Sudbury kicker Marcus Cassel. He’ll join forces with former Hockomock foes like North Attleborough’s Chris Hanewich.
Stonehill went 4-8 last season and finished sixth in the NEC.
