Lou Holtz was a prominent figure in college football for over three decades. He is best known for his tenure as the head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Arkansas Razorbacks.
His first head coaching position was at William & Mary in 1969. He then moved to NC State before taking over the program at Arkansas in 1977. During his seven years at Arkansas, he achieved a record of 60-21-2, winning the Southwest Conference championship in 1979. He left Arkansas after the 1983 season and became the head coach of Minnesota, where he spent two seasons.
Before the 1986, he left Minnesota to become the head coach at Notre Dame. Over 11 years in South Bend, he compiled a 100-30-2 record and won the national championship in 1988 after completing an undefeated season with a 12-0 record. Holtz eventually became an ESPN college football analyst where he stayed until 2015.
However, reports indicate that the legendary Hall of Fame football coach is receiving hospice care. The New York Post doesn’t reveal the reason the 89-year-old is in hospice care, however, it’s reportedly for serious medical reasons.
