On Friday, the USC football team defeated Fresno State 39-0 at the Coliseum. With the victory, the Trojans improved to 2-0 on the 2026 season.
Following the game, Fresno State head coach Matt Entz praised USC.
“A really good football team on the other sideline tonight,” Entz said. “Coach [Lincoln] Riley has done a tremendous job putting together a really competitive roster.
“You see why their quarterback [Jayden Maiava] is a Heisman contender. He’s tremendously talented, has great understanding and great awareness of what’s going on. Some of the RPO game that they ran, if you’re in zone coverage, you’re going to pay for it. But at the same time, you get really nervous about tryingto hold up the main coverage against these talented receivers.”
Of course, Entz is familiar with the Trojans, having served on Riley’s staff as USC’s linebackers coach during the 2024 season. He was hired as the head coach at Fresno State following that year.
Last week, Riley shared that he still has a great relationship with Entz, saying that “I hope they win every other game except this one.” Entz and Fresno State will look to make Riley proud as they compete in the new Pac-12 this season. The Trojans, meanwhile, will be back in action at the Coliseum this week against Louisiana.
