From your toothbrush to your bedsheets: Black-owned brands can upgrade your entire routine
TheGrio...
Swap your everyday essentials for these Black-owned products that are better for your home, your health, and make a lasting economic impact.
Think about everything you touched before you walked out the door this morning: the bedding you rolled out of, the toilet paper you used, the toothbrush and toothpaste you used, the candle you lit, the spray you used to freshen the room. Now imagine every one of those things came from a Black-owned brand, and was actually better for you. According to Candi Carter, CEO of Cistus Media and founder of Shop Red Bag, that aspiration is a very attainable reality.
“Black-owned businesses go across all categories,” Carter told theGrio. “There are all these quality brands out there that hit every category of everything we need in our lives, from fragrance to room sprays to candles, to toilet paper, and cleaning supplies to car washing kits, you name it in every aspect of our lives, there are black-owned brands that are providing it at a better quality than the mass-produced products that we’re buying.”
And in addition to citing the ways in which supporting Black-owned brands can help Black communities economically, Carter notes how oftentimes supporting these brands is also a way to put “better products on our skin, in our body and in our homes,” as they often use organic, natural materials that are better for the environment. Here are some Black-owned brands that you can incorporate into your daily routines
