FSU commit impresses at 7-on-7 event

The FSU Seminoles bolstered their 2027 recruiting class last week by landing two four-star prospects, and one of them is already making waves.

Four-star athlete Za'Kari Johnson competed for Carol City at the 305Sports Invitational, a 7-on-7 tournament in Miami, and showed why the Florida State coaching staff was so excited to land him. Zach Blostein of 247Sports named him one of the six best players at the prestigious event, which was full of future college players.

According to Blostein, he used his physicality to record multiple pass breakups and even an interception. While listed as an athlete, he is expected to play in the secondary for the Seminoles. He was originally a member of the 2028 recruiting cycle, but decided to reclassify, and the 6-foot-1, 196-pounder has wasted little time showing why he made the decision.

Johnson is ranked as the No. 346 overall player and No. 20 athlete in the 247Sports composite. The Opa Locka native is also the No. 28 player from Florida.

He played quarterback for Plantation High School in 2025 before transferring to Carol City ahead of his senior season. He completed 57.5% of his passes for 551 yards and seven touchdowns, throwing three interceptions. He also ran for 777 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 10.6 yards per carry. He recorded 10 tackles, four pass breakups, and one pick-six on defense.
