Where Does SHI Stadium Rank In The Big Ten?

We’ve reached that point of the summer where you can taste the start of the college football season.

That means there will be many rankings coming out regarding teams, players, position groups, and more. Off the field, there are other rankings that include things like stadiums, helmets, uniforms, and head coaches.

Paul Myerberg of USA Today put together a ranking of Big Ten stadiums. Rutgers fans, as you might have imagined, SHI Stadium did not come in high on the list.

The publication listed the home of the Scarlet Knights as the No. 16 stadium in the conference out of 18 locations. Myerberg discussed the lack of success Rutgers has had at home in recent years so put that together with the overall aspects of the stadium and it does not bring much.

“At a woeful 22-84 in Big Ten play since joining the conference, the Scarlet Knights are one of the league’s easiest outs. But they’ve done a little bit better at home in recent years, posting a winning mark at SHI Stadium in each of the past three seasons. — Paul Myerberg.”

SHI Stadium first opened in 1994 as Rutgers Stadium. The Scarlet Knights took on Kent State on Sept. 3 that year to officially begin action in the new building. In 2009, a $102 million renovation increased capacity by nearly 11,000 to 52,454.
