Florida State has been looking to better its recruiting when it comes to the linebacker position for quite some time. On Monday, they had one of the top players at the position in the country, 2028 four-star recruit Deshawn Simmons, on campus for a camp.
He had been to Tallahassee back in June of last year when he received his first offer at another camp, and he also attended FSU's game against the Miami Hurricanes last season. However, this time around, the campus was a little different, which left a great impression on him.
"It was good, got to see all the new facilities," Simmons told Noles247. "It was electric. Loved the coaches."
Linebackers coach Ernie Sims is entering his first season as the guy running the show. So, it's very important for him to start laying the groundwork of being a great recruiter at the linebacker spot.
When it comes to the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder, Sims has established a great connection with him. On this latest visit, it got even stronger.
"He was great," Simmons about Sims. "Got to talk a little ball, got to talk about other players."
Simmons has over 30 offers on the table from programs such as the Florida Gators, Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Ole Miss Rebels. However, he named five schools that are in his main group. They're the Alabama Crimson Tide, Miami Hurricanes, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, and Florida State.
The 247Sports composite has Simmons listed as the No. 132 overall prospect and the No. 9 linebacker in the nation. He's also the No. 14 recruit in the state of Texas.
