Everything can change quickly in recruiting, and the FSU Seminoles were on the wrong end of that on Monday.
At 10:26 a.m. ET today, three-star offensive tackle Jonathan Toney announced he would be taking an official visit to Florida State this weekend on social media. Four hours later, he announced he was committing to the Memphis Tigers.
FSU just started pushing for Toney, as offensive line coach Herb Hand is still looking to land his first commitment in the 2027 recruiting cycle. They issued him a scholarship offer on May 31 after he attended a school camp and had an impressive showing. He also visited FSU on March 31 and in November of 2025, getting to watch their game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
He is ranked as the No. 1,428 overall player and No. 109 offensive tackle. The Dublin native is also the No. 156 player from Georgia, a state the Seminoles have had plenty of success recruiting this year.
FSU will likely need to expand its recruiting board with Toney heading to Memphis. It was already sparse with them struggling to get targets to campus for official visits. One player they did host was four-star prospect DaJohn Yarborough, with the Seminoles emerging as the favorite in his recruitment.
After a lot of prayer & discussion with my family, I am excited to announce that I am committed to @MemphisFB‼️ #GTG 🐅🐅🐅#CloseTheGap
Appreciate my family & everyone who helped me make my decision.
