Kirby Smart and the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs (11-1) officially clinched a spot in Saturday’s SEC Championship for the fifth year in a row. They needed some help along the way, as No. 16 Texas’ victory over No. 3 Texas A&M in the Lone Star Showdown is what sealed the deal for the Bulldogs.
While making the SEC Championship is a nice accomplishment in itself, Georgia also has a prime opportunity to avenge their lone loss on the season. They will be facing off against the No. 10 Alabama Crimson Tide, who bested them 24-21 on Sept. 27 thanks to a three-touchdown performance from Ty Simpson. Although Smart is more than likely ensuring the Bulldogs don’t falter again, he and coaches across the country are also having to tend to their recruiting classes as early signing day approaches.
Early signing day officially opens on Dec. 3, and while the Bulldogs have a chance to push for the No. 1 class in the country they did end up losing a commitment on Monday.
As revealed in the build-up to Saturday’s SEC Championship game by Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett, the Bulldogs lost a commitment from three-star safety Kealan Jones. To make matters worse, he flipped to in-state rival, Georgia Tech.

According to Rivals’ recruiting rankings, the Dawgs still have the No. 2 class in the country, but with the team’s five-star quarterback commit Jared Curtis expected to flip to Vanderbilt, it may slide down the rankings a bit.
Saturday’s game is set to kick at 4:00 p.m. ET and will air on ABC.
