The Georgia Bulldogs did not have the best of runs this past spring when it comes to securing the class of 2027. As a result it looks like the program will finish a whole lot lower in the rankings than it may be used to.

Under Kirby Smart, a talented roster will never be the question, but the current era of the sport has certainly changed the game in recruiting and it is not nearly as easy as it may have been for Georgia even just a few years ago to land top talent. For the most part outside of a few final flip watches and until signing day, the Dawgs are turning the page to the class of 2028.

With some very impressive names of the wish list especially from within the state of Georgia, one is standing out above all the rest with every program in the country after him. By the sounds of it though, the Dawgs will have a very tough time fending off some big time suitors for Powder Springs safety Casey Barner, who is one of the best players in the nation.

Georgia Will Face Race with Ohio State, Texas A&M for Casey Barner

Intel from Jeremy Johnson of On3 revealed that both the Ohio State Buckeyes as well as the Texas A&M Aggies — two teams with some of the deepest pockets in all of college football — are going to be going after the McEachern High School star with a relentless pursuit.

The Dawgs were Barner's first major offer however, and they have already hosted him more than 10 times on campus as they try to jostle for position against just about every program in the country. Barner is going to be a very tough prospect to win and ultimately Johnson is predicting him to wind up elsewhere, but he emphasized just how razor thin this race is.

What Kind of Skillset Barner Would Bring to Georgia

Rated by 247 Composite as the No. 5 player in the nation overall, Barner is the No. 1 safety in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia for 2028. With two full seasons of high school football left, he is way ahead of his peers in terms of how he sees the game mentally and has a knack for creating turnovers.

An electrifying playmaker as well, Barner could contribute right away in the return game while being brought along a bit slower in the defensive back room. This is an absolute dream target for the Bulldogs and everyone else, and he's a name worth watching very closely over the course of the next eight months.
