Georgia HC Kirby Smart Praises LSU HC Lane Kiffin At SEC Media Days

There has been a lot said about new LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin over the offseason, with a range of opinions about him and how he came to be the Tigers' leader.

Smart started off with a joke about online "trolling" and Kiffin being the "Adonis" of SEC head coaches, before getting more serious in his praise, per video from LA First News' Chessa Bouche:

"[Kiffin] is very bright. He does an incredible job of evolving with college football. He was really good at that with us at Alabama. You know, he made Coach [Nick] Saban uncomfortable; let's just say it what it is. [Kiffin] helped revolutionize that offense and bring it along and did some really good things in a day and age when people weren't doing them."

Smart was on the Alabama Crimson Tide staff from 2007 to 2015. Kiffin was there from 2014 to 2016. Smart saw how much influence Kiffin had on the 2015 National Championship team, which got Smart the Bulldogs' job. Kiffin is one of the more influential people in modern college football, always staying ahead of the game.

"[Kiffin] does a great job. He's hard to play. I don't like having to play his teams because I know what he knows, and I know how he thinks about defenses, and he knows what he's doing."

Smart also made a nice mention of Kiffin's love for his family and his father in particular. A bit of a look into what the Tigers' coach is the way that he is and his personality off the field.

"But he's also passionate about his family and so proud of his dad, and he probably tweets and talks more about that on our thread of like memories or or or players. Derek Brooks sending him a text about his dad and just, you know, when you don't have a dad to share that with, because I've gone through that, you gotta have a group to share that with to get your like self-worth and your motivation. And I think him sharing those things reminds me a lot of times of of my dad. And it's like you want somebody to appreciate what your dad did and you don't have him to share that with.
