After two seasons at the helm of the Marietta (GA) Mt. Bethel Christian Academy football program, head coach Micah Hughes is heading to a neighboring state to accept a new job.

According to an announcement by Hughes on social media, the coach announced that he’s stepping down as the program’s founding head coach, compiling a 14-2 record over the course of two varsity seasons. Hughes has acknowledged he’s accepted a job in Tennessee at Johnson City (TN) Providence Academy.

“After much prayer and careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to step down as Head Football Coach at Mt. Bethel Christian Academy,” Hughes said in a statement about his decision. “Since starting the program in 2023, it has been an incredible privilege to help build and grow something special. I am so proud of the development of our players, not only as athletes but as young men. Together, we have worked to establish a football program that reflects hard work, discipline, and character, and I truly believe we are leaving it in a much stronger and more respectable position. This decision has not come easily. My family and I have absolutely loved our time in the Marietta area.”

Hughes founded the Eagles’ football program in 2023 and built it from the ground up, leading the team in its first two seasons. In the first ever campaign in 2024, Hughes guided Mt. Bethel Christian Academy to a 5-1 mark before last year’s 9-1 record, the best in the team’s brief history.

The Eagles have some promising slated returners for the 2026 campaign, including underclassmen quarterbacks Gino Luckie (1,086 yards, 18 touchdowns) and Ronin Thompson (719 yards, 13 touchdowns).

Mt. Bethel Christian Academy ended this past season with a 9-1 record and finished ranked No. 390 in the state according to the final 2025 Georgia High School Football Massey Rankings.
