The Georgia Bulldogs look like one of the best teams in the nation to this point in the season and the sole focus from the fans is on figuring out how this team can win a third national title under Kirby Smart.
While that makes sense from a fan perspective, the coaching staff is always going to be focused both on the present as well as the future of the program, and when it comes to recruiting, that has certainly been the case this fall. The Dawgs have seen a seemingly endless list of elite names make the trek to Athens already this fall, and soon it will be time to lock some of them up.
One name who a ton of programs are going after is coming off a visit to Sanford Stadium last weekend, and it sounds like Georgia is the current significant favorite over schools from across the conference. Intel from Rivals indicated the Dawgs being in a great spot for 2028 four-star linebacker out of Cornelius, North Carolina Ryan Peterson.
Georgia Team to Beat Right Now for Ryan Peterson
While teams like Alabama as well as LSU and Florida are pushing hard for the linebacker, Chad Simmons says it's the Dawgs who are the current favorite after Peterson's visit to Athens during the beatdown victory over Oklahoma.
Rivals even compared the traits that he has shown to former Georgia legend Nakobe Dean, who of course is now tearing it up at the NFL level after an extremely decorated career in Athens that saw him leave as an all-time great.
Peterson has been to Alabama, Georgia and Florida now three times each and it sounds like they are the big three here in this recruitment. Nobody has a better reputation of developing linebackers and sending them to the next level than Smart and this coaching staff though, so this will likely be the major selling point they push over the course of the next year.
Standing at just a hair under 6-foot-1 and weighing 220 pounds, Peterson has the kind of sideline to sideline speed you simply cannot teach.
Right now the Dawgs are the team to beat for his commitment which will likely come sometime next spring during official visit season. Perhaps before then, Georgia can continue to create some distance between themselves and the rest of the pack for this linebacker in Peterson who is so highly sought after.
