The Georgia Bulldogs are headed into the season trying to get back to the College Football Playoff and make a deeper run when they get there. They do this behind the leadership of returning quarterback Gunner Stockton, who is looking to make a leap in his second full season as a starter.

Armed with an elite running back room and an offensive line who looks like it could be one of the best in the nation, the pieces around him are there, however the wide receiver room has been called into question due to a lack of experience and proven playmaking ability.

While it is not a totally unfair criticism, there is also a whole lot to like about this room now in fall camp and just a few short weeks away from the start of the season. One player who has not received enough love as a guy who could be the alpha of this room is a newcomer in a transfer portal snag the Bulldogs got from their rival, former Georgia Tech star Isiah Canion.

Isiah Canion Could Be Massive Key in Wide Receiver Room

Kirby Smart has made a habit of finding playmakers in the transfer portal, and Canion is looking to be the latest. While he did not exactly have a massive statistical year with less than 500 yards for the Yellow Jackets in 2025 on 33 catches, there were flashes of brilliance and now it's time for him to reach the next level.

"He is pretty special in pads," Gunner Stockon told DawgNation during SEC Media Days. "He looks awesome. But he’s done a great job of, you know, working and doing everything in the offseason. If it’s, you know, when it’s winter workouts, then it goes to spring. Like, he had a great spring, and just the work he’s been putting into it. And, you know, he’s buying into the culture. You’d think he’s been here for three years or two years. But he’s a great guy to go in and work with every day."

Clearly, Canion is made of the right kind of stuff both on and off the field, which Smart certainly made sure of before bringing him in from a hated rival. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing just over 200 pounds, Canion is slotted into a starting role on the outside in which he could be that go up and get it type playmaker the Bulldogs are desperate for.

Getting on the same page as Stockton is an absolutely critical step, and by Stockton's words, it sounds like they are very close to getting to that point. Keep an eye on Canion this season as a guy who could be a major difference maker for this offense.
