Georgia footballgoes up against Vanderbilt Saturday for the 36th time they've met in Sanford Stadium.

The teams are resuming what used to be an SEC East matchup when they play for the first time in Athens since 2022.

Clark Lea’s Vanderbilt program ascended since the teams last played in Nashville in 2023 including a 10-win season with Diego Pavia last year.

Now it’s freshman and former UGA commitment Jared Curtis at quarterback to face the No. 2 Bulldogs.

The Commodores (3-1, 0-1 SEC) are a more than three-touchdown underdog against Georgia (4-0, 2-0), which has dominated all four of its opponents.

“It’s another week in the SEC,” Georgia wide receiver Talyn Taylor said. “No SEC team is taken lightly.”

Vanderbilt ranks sixth in the SEC in total defense at 310.3 yards per game.

“They’re athletic,” coach Kirby Smart said. “They've got twitchy guys. They've always had really good defensive players, in my opinion.”

Georgia leads the nation in scoring (54.8) and is fourth in total defense (232.5 ypg).

“I respect the way they play the game in all three phases,” Lea said. “They’re physical, they’re fast, they’re sound in their systems and yet this week is going to be about playing the best version of Vanderbilt football. If we can do that, we’re going to have a chance to put pressure on them and have a chance to win a game against a really good opponent in a tough environment.”
