It’s time to start preparing for the 2026 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces for Year 3 of the Fran Brown Era.

Name: Ju’Juan Johnson
Position: Running back
Year: Junior

Weight: 210 lbs.
Hometown: Lafayette, LA
High School/Previous College: Lafayette Christian Academy/LSU
2025 stats: Was on the field for all 13 games of the LSU Tigers’ 2026 games; finished with 41 carries for 155 yards (average of 3.8 YPC) and two touchdowns on the ground, plus 17 catches for 72 yards through the air.
2026 projections: Johnson brings quite the interesting resume to Upstate New York, having appeared in 26 games over two years and getting some reps as a running and receiving back, but not being tasked with that full RB1 or even RB2 workload. Johnson will have a place on the 2026 Orange, especially in multiple-RB alignments and with ‘Cuse potentially embracing more of a committee style in the backfield. I don’t think he’ll be the day-one starter, but he will certainly see his most time on the field this year with Syracuse.
How’d he get here?: Initially committed to LSU as an athlete over offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, Florida State, Penn State, Tennessee, Oregon, and a handful of other notable programs. Started his LSU tenure at defensive back, then moved mid-season to running back. He stayed there for his sophomore year. Johnson entered the transfer portal and committed to the Orange in January.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Johnson’s football beginnings first came at the quarterback position, where he set Louisiana prep school records in total yards and touchdowns. The individual numbers translated to success for the team, who went to four straight state championship games with him as the starter.
