Gophers’ 4 Moorhead commits make big senior-season debuts

The 2026 Minnesota high school football season officially began this week, and the majority of high school football across the country is now underway. Here are the biggest performances from the 29 players from the class of 2027 committed to the Gophers.

Moorhead four

There are four players from Moorhead High School committed to the Gophers’ 2027 recruiting class, and they all had impressive performances to begin their senior seasons against Rogers.

Quarterback Jett Feeney went 13 of 23 for 378 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Taye Reich had a quieter day with 13 carries for 46 yards, but he had a kick return for a touchdown. Defensive back Zak Walker showed his versatility with six receptions for 244 yards and three touchdowns, while wide receiver David Mack had three receptions for 72 yards and two touchdowns in a blowout win over the Royals.

Furian Inferrera continues to roll

Minnesota’s other QB commit in the 2027 class has gotten off to a great start at Mission Hills High School. He completed 14 of 19 passes for 267 yards and three total touchdowns to move to 3-0 on the season.

Tight end commits living up to the hype

Brooks Bakko and Drake Mikkelsen are both four-star prospects, according to all the major recruiting services. They combined for four total touchdowns in Week 1, and they continued to play at a high level in Week 2. There’s a reason why they’re Minnesota’s top two commits, according to 247Sports.

Eli Diane makes long-awaited return

Diane was trending to be one of the highest-rated high school football players to come out of Minnesota for quite some time, but he missed his entire junior season due to injury. He was back on the field for Wayzata High School on Thursday night, and he looks the part of a four-star prospect.

Jayden Thomas continues to impress

Thomas is a wide receiver from Vegas, and he might be the Gophers’ prospect who has outperformed his recruiting rating the most this season. Through four games, he now has 25 receptions for 504 yards and six touchdowns.

Jordan Walley is still dynamic

Walley is being recruited to Minnesota like his brother, as a defensive back, but he’s still a dynamic quarterback at D’Iberville High School. Through two weeks, he’s 16 of 26, passing the ball for 142 passing yards, 181 rushing yards and five total touchdowns. He also has six total tackles and one interception on the defensive side of the ball.

Other notes

Maryland wide receiver Carlos Ferguson had five receptions for 72 yards in his first game of the season. Mississippi running back Greg Hargrow has 28 carries for 109 yards and two touchdowns through two games. Texas wide receiver Kevin Ferrygood has eight receptions for 206 yards and two touchdowns through two weeks.
