Lane Kiffin is entering his first season as the head coach of the LSU Tigers after leaving his previous program, the Ole Miss Rebels, about as contentiously as possible right before the Rebels’ College Football Playoff run.

At LSU, Kiffin figures to have all the resources at his disposal to immediately have a national championship contender, and that’s not wasted on anyone in the state of Louisiana, even the politicians.

Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy recently sat down with the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show to discuss the current landscape of college sports in the NIL era and the expectations surrounding Kiffin.

“How would you assess where we are in an NIL world?” Travis asked.

“Well, first, Coach Kiffin, I don’t know him. Never met him. Didn’t hire him. Whoever his agent is, though, I want to— I want to hire his agent next time I go to buy a car because they gave him a— they gave him a Costco full of money,” Kennedy responded.

“That’s none of my business. It is taxpayer money that makes it my business. And they say, well, no, it’s not. But it is directly. I’ll tell you how my people look about it. When he’s making this kind of money, he better win. Now, my folks are simple people. We like breakfast food and straight answers. There’s no spot in Louisiana that’s more than 17 steps away from a Waffle House. And my people don’t care what Lane Kiffin does.

“He can go hit on— he can go hit on Kristi Noem’s husband in a dark cocktail lounge. We don’t care as long as he wins, but he better win. And, and otherwise, I don’t know him.”

Kennedy will be happy to know that Kiffin has already “guaranteed” that he’ll bring a national championship back to Death Valley.

“I don’t know how fast it’s going to happen, but we’re going to win a national championship,” Kiffin said. “We’re going to have the teams and the rosters back to the way they were playing when they were great. I don’t know how fast. It might not be today, but it’s going to happen.
