Curt Cignetti became known around college football as the coach who just couldn’t help himself around a microphone from the moment he set foot in Bloomington.

From his introduction at a men’s basketball game to his first signing day press conference, Indiana’s head football coach made national headlines for jokes and big proclamations alike. Rarely, however, has Cignetti weighed in on the matter of the day in college football.

The sport has spent the last several years grappling with rising NIL funding concerns and the transfer portal. Coaches around the country have made headlines of their own for commenting on the state of things but Cignetti has just about always declined to do so. He’s typically reasoned that those matters are beyond his control and he’ll just operate under whatever framework there is.
