Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti has become known throughout the college football world for several reasons. All the winning is the obvious one, but his practice tendencies are one of the larger pieces of the puzzle.
The Hoosiers do not waste time. Practices are quick, efficient and productive, taking less time than others for greater results. ESPN’s Jake Trotter provided a peek at what such a practice looks like in a piece over at The Worldwide Leader.
Cignetti’s ways extend all the way back to his first stop as a head coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he orchestrated a rapid turnaround after a lengthy career as an assistant. These practices give players more time to recover and watch film, the latter being a critical cornerstone of Cignetti’s programs.
All the while, Cignetti acts as an observer while the rest of the staff works with players on an individual level. If players hear from him, it’s usually a whistle signaling a transition between periods.
