As the college football season is now less than 100 days away, CBS Sports listed Florida football as a 'tier 2' national title contender entering 2026. The Gators' championship odds stand at 50-1 according to the outlet.
College football analyst Chip Patterson praised the arrival of Jon Sumrall and his retention of several key players. Also lauded was Sumrall's ability to elevate the team with transfer portal additions that addressed glaring needs down the roster.
Patterson noted that Florida "could be favored in as many as nine of 10 games." After coming off a 4-8 season, the program is already facing lofty expectations, with many seeing the unit as an SEC dark horse.
Major questions, however, still persist for the Gators: who will win the starting quarterback job, will they be able to maintain consistent play throughout the season, and will the revamped roster gel quickly enough to make a legitimate national surge?
The arrival of new offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner and quarterback Aaron Philo from Georgia Tech has generated considerable buzz around the college football landscape, as the play-caller and transfer quarterback look to install a new offensive philosophy in Gainesville.
