The Oxford Police Department and Ole Miss Police Department released weekend reports from the Rebels' first two football weekends of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 22 — including Mississippi football's rowdy atmosphere for its Week 3 win over LSU.
The LSU-Ole Miss game introduced enhanced security measures, especially with ESPN's "College GameDay" in town and former Rebels coach Lane Kiffin returning to Oxford, Mississippi, for the first time. The game, predictably, resulted in many more incidents than the Rebels' home opener against Charlotte in Week 2.
Ole Miss Police reported 39 incidents from the weekend of the LSU game, as first reported by The Clarion-Ledger, part of the USA TODAY Network. That's 15 more incidents than reported from the Rebels' first home game weekend against Charlotte.
Although police made only two more arrests with LSU in town — 34, compared to 32 from the Charlotte weekend — there were 81 reports in Week 3 compared to 53 in Week 2, according to the database.
"There were six disorderly conducts, five disturbances, one aggravated assault on a police officer and one usage of EMS due to an intoxicated person inside the stadium," according to The Clarion-Ledger.
It was an all-time weekend in Oxford, as Heisman Trophy hopeful Trinidad Chambliss passed for 363 yards with three total touchdowns in Ole Miss' 32-24 win over LSU. Chambliss, who could have transferred to the Tigers along with his former offensive coaches that followed Kiffin, opted to stay with the Rebels. It paid off in Week 3.
Ole Miss has another tough matchup in Week 4 when it travels on the road to face No. 22 Florida in a hostile environment in The Swamp.
