How Many Syracuse Alums Are Broadcasting College Football at ESPN Right Now?

The 2026 college football season kicks off this month, and several Syracuse alumni will be a part of the national television coverage at ESPN.

The network announced its broadcasting teams for the upcoming season on Wednesday and SU is well represented, as always.

The Newhouse School of Public Communications is considered one of the top broadcasting schools in the country. Many of these broadcasters attended and graduated from that program in Central New York. 

Syracuse alums on ESPN this upcoming season

Jay Alter- A 2016 graduate, Alter has called college football, along with lacrosse action on multiple channels across ESPN. He's also been on the coverage for college basketball conference championship games.

Paul Carcaterra– Will return in his role working as a sideline reporter, a job he has served for well over a decade. Carcaterra will be a part of the T'hursday Night Football' game crew.Carcaterra was a former Orange lacrosse player who helped the Orange to national championship in 1995. He is also one of the voices of ESPN on the lacrosse side.

Marc Kestecher– A Guilderland, N.Y. native, "Kesty" will handle the calls on ESPN Radio for some of college football's biggest matchups. He attended Syracuse University and is also one of the main voices for ESPN's NBA coverage, especially on the radio.

Sean McDonough– A recent NSMA National Sportscaster of the Year, McDonough's career spans more than three decades. He is one of the most utilized voices in broadcasting, also calling the NHL for ESPN. He was also the voice of the Boston Red Sox at one point.

Dave Pasch– The former "Voice of the Orange" from 1999-2002. Since departing Central New York, Pasch's career has included national games on ESPN, along with serving as the radio voice of the NFL's Arizona Cardinals. 

Anish Shroff– Shroff is also the radio play-by-play voice of the NFL's Carolina Panthers. Orange fans may be familiar with Shroff as ESPN's lead voice of college lacrosse coverage. 

ESPN's college football coverage in 2026

This year's ESPN college football coverage will see games broadcasted across multiple channels, including ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPN+, SEC Network+, ACCNX, ESPN Radio and ESPN Deportes. ESPN will also serve as the television home for multiple conference title games and College Football Playoff games. 

What's next for 2026 Syracuse football?

While many of these names have followed the Orange since their days as students on campus, it is possible some of the former Orange will call a game featuring this year's group.

The dates, times and broadcast teams for specific matchups will be announced later this fall. The 2026 Syracuse football team starts its season on Saturday, Sept. 5 at the JMA Wireless Dome. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. ET.  The Orange will play New Hampshire.
