Oregon football boasted one of the best offenses in all of college football last season, and a large part of it was thanks to star quarterback Dante Moore. After sitting a year behind Dillon Gabriel, Moore emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in college football in 2025 and could have been taken near the top of the NFL Draft.
Instead, Moore is coming back to Oregon after a bitter loss in the College Football Playoff semifinals against eventual national champion Indiana. That decision makes Oregon one of the national title favorites heading into 2026.
But Moore’s effect on the Ducks program goes beyond just what he does on the field. His leadership ability in the locker room also made its mark on his Oregon teammates. On Thursday during spring practice, star wide receiver Dakorien Moore spoke about his relationship with Dante and how he helped him rebound from a knee injury last season, via Caleb Sisk of Sports Illustrated.
“So last year, when I first got here, Dante was one of the first ones to talk to me. We had to have the same last name. So he reached out to me and stuff like that, and he been pushing me ever since,” Moore said, via Sisk.
“He was the first one getting me with all the older guys and stuff like that, with throwing outside of practice. So, being that I got hurt, he wanted me to have that confidence back in myself. So he’s kind of like getting me, like more targets working me back in, being that I couldn’t really finish the season off strong that I wanted to last year.”
The younger Moore was touted as one of the best wide receivers in the country when he came out of high school, and he showed what the hype was about early in his freshman season. However, a knee injury suffered in practice kept him out for the end of the regular season, and he never regained a prominent role in the offense even after returning from the injury.
Moore caught 34 balls for 497 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman, but what he put on tape showed that he is clearly capable of more than that. If the Ducks can get that out of him this fall, the duo of Dante and Dakorien Moore can become one of the best in all of college football.
