Baylor is 1-1 this season, falling 17-16 to Auburn in its campaign opener before defeating Prairie View 44-3 in its following matchup. Star quarterback transfer DJ Lagway had an up-and-down game against Auburn, connecting on just 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, while Gavin Freeman caught 12 passes for 154 yards and one touchdown in the defeat.
Lagway suffered an ankle injury that forced him to miss the game against Prairie View, forcing backup quarterback Nate Bennett to start in his absence. In the win, Bennett went 24 of 36 through the air for 314 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Freeman caught another 10 passes in the Bears’ second game for 104 yards, as he continues to show he’s one of the better wide receivers in the Big 12. Freeman transferred to Baylor from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and is currently using his fifth year of eligibility.
Louisiana Tech, meanwhile, is 1-1 this season, losing to LSU 45-14 to start the campaign before bouncing back to defeat Northwestern State 80-6 in its follow-up matchup. In the win over Northwestern State, quarterback Blake Baker connected on 10 of 14 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns, while Jalen Mickens caught three passes for 133 yards and one score through the air.
