Norfolk State plays its second straight road game against an in-state foe after losing at Norfolk neighbor Old Dominion 31-10 on Saturday. The Spartans fell behind 17-0 and cut it to 17-10 in the third quarter before ODU pulled away. Deljay Bailey finished 14-of-20 for 94 yards and ran for 51 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, while Jalyn Daniels picked up 84 yards on 11 attempts.
Virginia opened its season on Aug. 29 with a 34-8 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over visiting NC State. Missouri transfer Beau Pribula debuted for the Cavaliers by going 9-of-11 for 155 yards and two touchdowns while running for 110 yards on 15 attempts. Xavier Brown caught two passes for 58 yards and a score and also ran for a TD. DaShawn Martin grabbed a touchdown pass, and Xay Davis scored on the ground.
The Cavaliers finished 7-1 in ACC play before losing to Duke in the conference championship game and beating Missouri in the Gator Bowl to finish 11-3. The Spartans went 1-11 in their first season under head coach Michael Vick.
