Michigan football quarterback Bryce Underwood landed on the hot seat already. Head coach Kyle Whittingham eavesdropped Tommy Carr’s name during his recent presser. Signaling that Underwood is facing a benching following his underwhelming Western Michigan performance.
Underwood managed to deliver the miracle Hail Mary completion to avoid the upset against the Broncos. But still the dual-threat quarterback became the target of criticism after the win.
Now the quarterback faced the heat during his press conference Wednesday. Including addressing if he overheard Whittingham’s QB1 warning.

“There were comments about that? That’s cool. I didn’t see that. It’s cool,” Underwood said, completely blowing off the coach’s wording.
He sounds unphased by the statement Whittingham made. Although Whittingham believes Underwood is Michigan’s guy and that everyone, including the coaches, must raise their level up.
Still, Michigan’s sophomore catapulted into the national spotlight amid a disappointing start that nearly saw WMU deliver the upset.
Underwood finished a dismal 12-of-22 for 170 yards and threw his lone touchdown with one second left. And the added time became its own widely popular heated discussion following Saturday, featuring both the Big Ten and MAC chiming in. However, the NCAA ruled in favor of Michigan despite the controversial finish.
So the Wolverines and Underwood must pick up the debris left behind in that slow week one start. And they must bury that version of themselves ahead of Saturday.
Oklahoma out of the SEC presents a far different large scale obstacle compared to the Group of Five challenger WMU. The Sooners boast one of the nation’s deepest and fiercest front sevens on defense. Plus come with their own dual-threat quarterback in John Mateer. Michigan is currently the slight underdog at 5.5-points.
