Important Players to Watch: NCAA Week 3

Heading into Week 3, there are a few players we all should keep our eyes on.

South Carolina vs. Mississippi State features two players who need to be watched. LaNorris Sellers is looking to justify all of the hype he had going into last season but was not able to live up to. During the offseason, South Carolina added OC Kendal Briles to the staff. Briles was very influential in shaping the current offense being implemented at LSU with Lane Kiffin.

The first game for Sellers was not good at all. He finished 10-of-23 for 96 yards and an interception, but he did have seven carries for 119 yards and a touchdown on the ground. The second game was much better. Sellers finished 19-of-23 for 270 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers and only two rushing attempts. So, which Sellers will show up against State on Saturday? Hopefully, the better version, because the young quarterback he will be going up against is playing extremely well.

We mentioned Kamario Taylor last week, and he did not disappoint. Through the first two weeks, he still has not thrown an interception, is completing just under 70% of his passes and has just under 600 passing yards. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. Taylor has been able to add 145 yards on the ground on 19 rushing attempts with another touchdown.

Taylor is playing well and will now be challenged with his first true road SEC game at South Carolina on Saturday. If Taylor can lift the Bulldogs over South Carolina, it would be a statement win for himself and the program as well. His ascension has been a very fun one to watch.

Here is a hidden gem to keep an eye on: Memphis running back Jaylin Carter. Carter is an explosive, patient running back with game-breaking vision and speed. He is currently leading the nation in rushing yards and touchdowns. Carter has 43 carries for 375 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 8.7 yards per carry. That average is behind only Florida’s Jadan Baugh, who is averaging an astounding 10.6 yards per carry.

Carter is a true sophomore who played at Southern Miss last season as a true freshman. If he stays on this pace, with three years of eligibility remaining, he will definitely be a player to keep your eye on throughout the season. Memphis will play UT Martin on Saturday at 6 p.m.
