ORLANDO — UCF’s ranked status lasted just a week.

The Knights dropped out of The Associated Press’ Top 25 on Monday, Jan. 12, a result of their road loss to Oklahoma State. They rebounded with a 73-72 home win over Cincinnati Sunday, improving to 13-2 overall with a 2-1 mark in the Big 12 Conference.

It was the first time UCF earned a place in either of the nation’s major men’s basketball polls since 2019.

The Knights picked up six votes in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, falling from the first team out of the top 25 to the 11th. Tennessee, Saint Louis, Villanova, Saint Mary’s, Seton Hall, St. John’s, SMU, Miami (Fla.), Texas A&M and Miami (Ohio) received more recognition from the panel of 31 Division I head coaches.

As for the AP poll, eight teams are ahead of UCF in the queue: Saint Louis, Kansas, Iowa, Miami (Ohio), Villanova, Wisconsin, Miami (Fla.) and Texas A&M.

UCF has head-to-head wins against both Kansas and Texas A&M this season.

However, it could make a quick return in the weeks ahead; such are the opportunities a Big 12 schedule presents. Following a tricky Jan. 14 trip to Kansas State, UCF will host near-unanimous No. 1 Arizona at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, and then depart for No. 2 Iowa State the following Tuesday.
