Jedd Fisch Could Be Coveted in 2026 Coaching Carousel

Washington Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch still has four years left on his original seven-year contract going into his third season in Seattle.

However, that hasn't stopped future projections and speculation around Fisch's future on Montlake.

Both The Athletic and ESPN listed the 50-year-old New Jersey native and Florida graduate in separate stories about which college football coaches could be on the move with a successful 2026 campaign at their current school.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic noted Fisch's success at both Arizona and UW, a combined 32-33 overall record with three bowl wins in six appearances, and the program still not being in the upper echelon of the Big Ten Conference as primary reasons he could be poised for another move.

"Last season, Fisch led the Huskies to a 9-4 mark, but it wouldn’t surprise us if Fisch would be tempted to make a move out of Seattle," Feldman wrote. "The Washington job isn’t close to the top of the Big Ten financially. If USC doesn’t win big in Lincoln Riley’s fifth season, Fisch might be an option there depending on how his team does in 2026. He has proven to be an outstanding talent evaluator and program manager based on what he built at Arizona and his rebuild in Seattle."

Adam Rittenberg of ESPN echoed similar sentiments while highlighting Fisch's track record of moving from different jobs over the past two decades, at both the college and pro level, with most stops lasting no longer than three years, ahead of his third year in the Emerald City.

"The 50-year-old has voiced a need for Washington to keep pace financially, especially given the spending of arch rival Oregon and other Big Ten contenders," Rittenberg wrote. "Florida and Michigan were both fits for Fisch but chose other candidates in the past cycle, so similar job opportunities likely would need to open to get him away from Seattle."

Fisch was hired in January 2024 by former Huskies athletic director Troy Dannen, who left less than a year later for the same role at Nebraska.

If Fisch can hit the double-digit win plateau in 2026, it will put current athletic director Pat Chun in a position to choose whether or not to offer him an extension or if other Power Four programs, most likely in the Big Ten or SEC given his track record, can pluck the coach away from Seattle as he's on the precipice of building a consistent College Football Playoff contender, built largly through high school recruiting and retention of those players.
