Jeremiah Smith sets Ohio State record against Illinois on Saturday

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is up to his usual shenanigans on Saturday.
He’s been unstoppable against Illinois and scored two touchdowns in the first quarter. His second touchdown was amazing: he caught a deep ball and turned an Illinois defender inside out to score, making it 14-0 for Ohio State.

Smith added another touchdown in the second quarter and now has six receptions for 132 yards and three touchdowns. He has now become the first Ohio State wideout to reach 3,000 career yards.
Jeremiah Smith’s 2026 college football season to date
Smith is arguably the best wide receiver in college football and has shown why throughout the season. He already has the Ohio State record in all-time receiving yards and is one of the top candidates to win the Heisman Trophy.
Going into this contest, Smith compiled 21 receptions for 400 yards and three touchdowns in three prior games. He’s on pace to finish the 2026 season with over 1,000 yards again after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2024 and 2025.
A win would improve the Buckeyes’ overall record to 3-1 heading into their next game against the Iowa Hawkeyes next Saturday.
