Sumrall is in his first season with Florida, after coaching at Tulane. The Gators are 3-0 on the year heading into Saturday’s clash with the Rebels.
Florida already has wins this year over Auburn, Florida Atlantic and Campbell. The Rebels meanwhile also enter the game undefeated, coming off an emotional win over LSU.
Florida football fans hope for a win against Ole Miss
Florida fans want the team to reach this year’s College Football Playoff. A win over Ole Miss would go a long way to help bolster their resumé. The Gators have been scoring at will so far this season.
“UF is off to its first 3-0 start since 2019 and has scored 162 points in three games, the most points in program history under a first-year coach,” The Gainesville Sun reported.
Florida will face a tough test on Saturday. Ole Miss is led by Trinidad Chambliss, who has been praised as one of the top quarterbacks in the country this season. On the campaign, Chambliss has 924 passing yards and seven touchdown throws.
“We have to be prepared because they’re the best team we’ve played so far,” Sumrall said of the Rebels, per the Sun.
Florida enters Saturday’s game with a key injury. Wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. is a game-time decision for the Gators. He has yet to play this season. Sumrall is optimistic that his star wideout will be able to play.
The Gators and Ole Miss play at 3:30 ET on Saturday.
