Michigan football will be without star running back Justice Haynes against Purdue and there's a chance he could be sidelined for a while.
Haynes suffered a foot injury against Michigan State last week and was ruled out for the Wolverines' game against Purdue on Saturday, Nov. 1. Pictures of the running back in a walking boot surfaced earlier in the week.
It's unclear how long the injury will keep Haynes out for. The junior transfer from Alabama was in the midst of a breakout year with the Wolverines, with 857 yards and 10 touchdowns on 121 carries (7.1 yards per carry).
Haynes suffered an injury to his midsection against USC in mid-October, sitting out after running 10 times for 51 yards. He missed the following week against Washington before suiting up on Oct. 25 in the Wolverines' victory over Michigan State.
Haynes ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten in rushing yards and No. 3 in the nation in yards per game (122.4) despite missing 1½ games. Haynes is one of only four backs in the country with four runs of 50 yards or more this season.
He was on pace for U-M's best season for a running back since Blake Corum in 2013; after rushing for 152 yards and two touchdowns vs. Michigan State, he has recorded more than 100 yards and a touchdown in every game he has finished.
Haynes' injury should mean more carries for Jordan Marshall. In his second season at U-M, Marshall had 110 yards (on 15 carries) against MSU, including a 56-yard touchdown. That followed the best game of his career the week prior, when he filled in against Washington and ran 25 times for 133 yards and a score to go with three catches for 20 yards.
