The Washington Huskies football team will see more true freshmen on the offensive side of the ball in the coming weeks than it opened the season with.
The Huskies began the season with Kodi Greene starting at left tackle. Since then, first-year running backs Brian Bonner Jr. and Ansu Sanoe have had to step in due to injuries to second-year Quaid Carr and fourth-year Jayden Limar.
The freshmen contributing on the offensive side of the ball has added to the team's overall total, with first-years Derek Colman-Brusa (defensive tackle), Jeron Jones (cornerback) and Ramzak Fruean (edge rusher) all receiving starting reps on defense.
Two more true freshmen, both wide receivers, will also be called upon to contribute meaningful snaps for Washington.
The Huskies will be without sixth-year wide receiver Christian Moss for two-to-three months due to a lower-body injury and fourth-year wide receiver Rashid Williams will be week-to-week with a soft tissue injury.
Moss suffered his injury Week 1 against the Washington State Cougars and Williams was knocked out of Washington's Week 2 win against Utah State.
After Williams went down, Jordan Clay and Trez Davis stepped up and will continue to do so as long as the team is without Moss and Williams.
"I think you saw it a little bit the other day," Huskies wide receivers coach Kevin Cummings said in a weekly news conference Tuesday. "Those guys are going to go in there and they're not gonna flinch. They're still learning a lot about the game. … There's gonna be mistakes, there's going to be different things that you got to learn. But go out there with no fear, go out there with confidence, at the end of the day go out there and have fun and you saw those guys do that and make some huge plays for us."
Clay finished the Washington's Sept. 12 win against the Aggies with four receptions for 42 yards (all in the first half) and Davis had a similar total of four catches for 44 yards.
Clay and Davis were both members of the Huskies' lauded 2026 recruiting class, which ranked 12th in the country — the best ranking program history. Both wide receivers were ranked as four-star recruits by the 247Sports composite, and Washington had to fight to get both.
The Huskies flipped Clay from the Baylor Bears and Davis decommitted from the Tulane Green Wave and committed to UW months later.

Clay, specifically, entered the program with a lot of expectations as a potential replacement at the "X" position for the team's 2025 leading receiver Denzel Boston, who is now with the NFL's Cleveland Browns. Clay missed time in spring and fall practice with minor injuries and was unable to properly showcase what he could do on a consistent basis with the starters.
Now, he has his chance.
"Jordan is probably (6-foot-3, 218 pounds) right now," Cummings said. "And to be that size as a freshman and to be able to move the way that he moves is what we look for in an 'X' receiver. … His talent-level is undeniable and we've said that from the beginning. Now, it's just our job as coaches and his job, day-in and day-out in practice, making sure that he's getting the reps that he needs and is getting into the conditioning that he needs to be able to be the guy that we expect him to be."

Both wide receivers will have an opportunity to showcase their readiness in the team's final nonconferece game of the season against the Eastern Washington Eagles at 4:15 p.m. PT on Saturday at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
