Kewan Lacy injury update raises major concern for Ole Miss football vs Florida

Ole Miss football star Kewan Lacy has been downgraded ahead of Saturday afternoon’s SEC showdown between the No. 4 Rebels and No. 21 Florida Gators at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainsville in Week 4 of the college football season.

Lacy, who has been listed as questionable on the SEC availability report throughout the week as he deals with a shoulder injury, was downgraded to doubtful on Friday. Lacy injured his shoulder in the team’s Week 3 win over the LSU Tigers.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Lacy was trending toward being a game-time decision before Friday’s development. Ole Miss coach Pete Golding had also downplayed the severity of Lacy’s injury.

If Lacy is unable to go on Saturday afternoon, JT Lindsay would be in line for an increased role.

While the exact severity of Lacy’s shoulder injury has not been revealed, Golding has said that the star running back is not expected to need surgery. However, the team has been protecting him by keeping him out of contact portions of practice.

“The shoulder’s not as bad as we thought it was,” Golding said. “It’s still not perfect. He doesn’t need surgery. It’s getting padded up right now. We’ve kind of held him from the contact portion of practice the last two days, and we’ll really evaluate pregame.”

Through the first three games of the season, Lacy has rushed for 191 yards and fourth downs on 39 carries. Last season, Lacy transfered to the Rebels from Missouri, and had a breakout year with 1,567 yards and 24 touchdowns as Ole Miss reached the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Lacy’s status will be something worth watching leading up to Saturday afternoon’s kickoff, which is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
