Key observations from Wisconsin’s win over Eastern Michigan

The Wisconsin Badgers blew out the Eastern Michigan Eagles 54-10 on Saturday, improving to 2-1 ahead of Big Ten play with a dominant victory.

The Badgers led 31-7 by halftime and didn’t face any resistance in the second half, as they had 479 yards of offense, forced three turnovers, and stood out on special teams.

Here are all the key game notes and observations from Wisconsin’s Week 3 win, courtesy of UW Athletics.

Team Notes

1. Today’s captains: LB Aaron Witt, sophomore LB Mason Posa and sophomore LB Cooper Catalano.

2. Today’s attendance at Camp Randall Stadium was 66,545.

3. Wisconsin’s 54 points were the most since posting 66 points against New Mexico State on Sept. 17, 2022. UW’s 44-point win was its largest since earning a 46-point win against Purdue on Oct. 5, 2024

5. The Badgers racked up 479 yards of offense, their most since posting 549 yards of offense against Rutgers on Oct. 12, 2024. Wisconsin has now posted 400+ yards of offense in back-to-back games for the first time since games against Purdue and Rutgers in October 2024.

6. The Badgers improved to 5-0 all time against Eastern Michigan. UW has outscored the Eagles 189-26 in the five meetings.

7. UW’s 31 points scored in the first half were the most since UW had 35 points in a 66-7 win over New Mexico State on Sept. 17, 2022.

8. The Badgers went 8-of-12 on third down (66.7 percent) while holding the Eagles to 3-of-12 on third down (25.0 percent).

9. Wisconsin scored a defensive TD for the first time since Ricardo Hallman posted a 95-yard pick-six against Rutgers on Oct. 7, 2023. LB Cooper Catalano’s scoop and score was Wisconsin’s first fumble return for a TD since Matt Henningsen recorded one against Northwestern on Sept. 28, 2019.

10. Wisconsin forced 3 turnovers, earning a pair of interceptions and a forced fumble. It marks the first time UW has forced 3 turnovers in a single game since doing so against USC on Sept. 28, 2024.

11. UW ended the game blocking Eastern Michigan’s 48-yard field goal attempt as CB Eric Fletcher Jr. blocked the kick and CB Donovan Dunmore returned it for the score. It marks the first time the Badgers blocked a field goal and returned it for a score since Reggie Cribbs blocked a field goal and Jim Leonhard returned it 86 yards for a score against UNLV on Sept. 11, 2004.

12. UW did not punt in the game, marking the first time since a 45-24 win vs. Purdue on Nov. 11, 2019 that the Badgers did not record a punt.

Individual Notes

1. QB Colton Joseph completed 23-of-33 passes for 362 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also rushed for a score.
Joseph set a school record with 302 yards passing in the first half, breaking the previous school record of 276 yards set by Jack Coan vs. Central Michigan on Sept. 7, 2019.

2. Joseph became the 14th Badger to pass for 300 yards in a game and is the first since Braedyn Locke threw for 359 yards vs. Purdue on Oct. 5, 2024. Joseph’s 362 yards are the 7th most by a Badger QB in school history.

3. Joseph was UW’s leading rusher on the afternoon, rushing 9 times for 46 yards and had his first rushing TD as a Badger. His 408 total yards of offense are tied for the third-most in school history with UW legend Melvin Gordon inducted into the UW Hall of Fame this weekend.

4. WR Tyrell Henry set the school record for single-game catches with 14 receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown. Henry broke Matt Nyquist’s previous school record of 13 catches vs. Iowa on Nov. 18, 1995.

5. Henry’s 160 yards were a career high as he was the first Badger to have 150+ yards receiving in a game since Alex Erickson had 160 yards receiving against Minnesota on Nov. 29 2014. Henry became the first Badger to surpass 100 receiving yards in a game since Lance Mason posted 102 receiving yards against Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 6, 2025.

6. RB Darrion Dupree rushed 8 times for 29 yards and a touchdown.

7. WR Chris Brooks Jr. had 3 catches for a career-high 91 yards, including a 75-yard TD in the 2nd quarter. The 75-yard reception was the longest of Brooks Jr.’s career. Brooks Jr. is the first Badger to catch TDs in back-to-back games since WR Jayden Ballard caught TDs against MTSU and Alabama during non-conference play last year.

8. TE Jacob Harris had 3 catches for 89 yards, matching his career high in receptions while setting a career-high in yards.

9. TE Emmett Bork had his first career reception, a 7-yard TD catch, in the fourth quarter.

10. CB Bryce West collected a career-high 5 tackles, which also led the team. His 2 tackles-for-loss were also a career best.

11. DL Nolan Vils had a career day with 5 tackles. He also posted his first career sack.

12. LB Sebastian Cheeks had a sack and forced fumble, his second forced fumble of the season. His forced fumble led to a scoop and score touchdown by Cooper Catalano.

13. LB Cooper Catalano had 4 tackles and his first career touchdown, recovering a fumble in the third quarter and running it in 10 yards for a score.

14. LB Mason Posa had his first career interception in the second quarter, running it back 24 yards. He also posted 3 stops.

15. S Matt Jung had his first pick as a Badger in the second quarter. In addition, he had 3 tackles, a pass breakup and a QB hurry.

16. K Gavin Lahm hit field goals from 39 yards and 41 yards and was a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points.
