‘Kind of Amused by This’ — Analyst Weighs In on Lane Kiffin’s Remark on Ole Miss Facing Pressure Ahead of LSU Game

LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin spent six seasons at Ole Miss and compiled a 55–19 record before leaving for LSU ahead of the College Football Playoff last season.
Kiffin is not expecting a warm welcome when he returns to Oxford in Week 3 to face the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday. The head coach has attracted attention after claiming that he will not be under pressure and that the stakes will be higher for his former team.
Ari Wasserman Rejects Lane Kiffin’s Pressure Claim
In a recent episode of the “Andy & Ari On3” podcast, college football analyst Ari Wasserman shared his thoughts on Kiffin’s attempt to shift the pressure onto Ole Miss. Wasserman does not believe LSU has less at stake and said:
“I had been stewing over that for 24 hours, and I was actually kind of amused by this viewpoint that both sides won.”
“You left the job to go to a place that you deemed was better in every facet. You have the gall to get up in front of a microphone the week of the game and talk about how they should be viewed as the favorite.”
“LSU is paying the buyout of Brian Kelly, paying your record contract and paying for the No. 1 transfer portal class that brought in more than 40 players. To sit there and pretend like Ole Miss is somehow better off than LSU going into this game is downright insane.”
“It also undermines your entire decision. If Ole Miss should be viewed as better or have the pressure on them, then why the hell did you even leave to begin with? The entire point of leaving is to go to a place where you can accomplish something that was unaccomplishable in Oxford.”

Wasserman believes Kiffin’s argument undermines his decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU. The Tigers invested heavily in their new head coach and roster, creating high expectations for his first season with the program.
Kiffin based his argument on the fact that Ole Miss won 13 games last season while LSU recorded only seven victories. He also mentioned the intense attention and hostility he expects to face during his return to Oxford.
“There’s going to be so much attention and hatred on me. You just get to go play. The pressure is on them. We won seven games last year; they won 13.”
Although Kiffin is attempting to remove pressure from his players, all eyes will be on him when he faces his former program. A victory would support his decision to move to LSU, while a loss would give Ole Miss and its fans an opportunity to celebrate at the expense of their former coach.
