One of the biggest games of Week 2 of the 2026 college football season is between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Michigan Wolverines. These two programs are among the best in the history of the sport.

The Sooners won last year's matchup in Norman, 24-13, marking the Wolverines' first trip to Norman. The two had faced just one other time; Oklahoma won that one as well, 14-6 in the Orange Bowl, while claiming the 1975 national championship. Now the Sooners will return the favor, making their first trip to Ann Arbor.

The two couldn't have had two different types of season-openers. Oklahoma dominated the University of Texas at El Paso Miners, 51-0. Whereas the Wolverines struggled against the Western Michigan Broncos, winning 13-12 on a controversial Hail Mary attempt as time expired.

Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham discussed the challenges his team will face this weekend.

"I can tell you right now, I've studied the personnel; they're very talented," Whittingham told reporters. "Their defensive line is outstanding. Quarterback, we did a deep dive on him when he was at Washington State, when he went into the portal because we would have liked to have had him at Utah… he's a dual threat. A guy who can beat you both ways… They've got a game-breaking receiver… They are very talented in all three phases, and we've got our work cut out for us, big time."

The praise reflects the challenge Michigan faces. Oklahoma has already shown it can dominate an opponent from start to finish, while Michigan is trying to correct major issues after barely surviving their opener. With the Sooners looking to repeat last year's win and Michigan trying to prove Week 1 was an aberration, Saturday's game could quickly become one of the most important early tests for both programs.

The Sooners and Wolverines will face off at 11:00 a.m. CT on Fox as part of Big Noon Kickoff.
