Lance Leipold Says London Game Is A Once-In-A-Lifetime Opportunity For Kansas Football
Kansas' Week 3 matchup against Arizona State in London will bring unique challenges, but Lance Leipold believes the experience will be worth it.
Speaking at Big 12 Media Days, Leipold said the opportunity to play at Wembley Stadium is about much more than football.
"I think we're still about student-athlete experience," Leipold said. "I think we're providing an opportunity for our student-athletes to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience to go over there and play a football game."
Leipold compared the trip to one he experienced decades ago as a graduate assistant at Wisconsin, when the Badgers traveled to Japan.
"When I run into former players at that time, they still talk about that game and the trip and everything that went along with it," he said.

Kansas will receive a bye week after returning from England, something Leipold believes will help the Jayhawks avoid some of the issues teams have faced after international games in the past.
"We feel we have a very confident plan when we do get back about how we're going to get our guys some time down, transition back, and then get ready," Leipold said.
The national spotlight will also be larger than normal. FOX's Big Noon Kickoff will broadcast live from Wembley Stadium before kickoff, something Leipold believes benefits not only the football program but the university as a whole.
"Anytime a chance for your university to be kind of separate and on the stage… the opportunities that'll be, the coverage that'll bring," Leipold said. "Hopefully the branding of that it does really for both universities across the board, not just for football."
Leipold also praised Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark for embracing innovative opportunities.
"I think with the vision of Commissioner Yormark and his aggressiveness to maybe be outside the box in some things, hopefully we'll be on the cutting edge of this for years to come," Leipold said.
For Kansas, the trip to London represents far more than a single game. It's an opportunity to showcase the program on an international stage while giving players an experience Leipold believes they'll remember long after their careers end.
