Lane Kiffin Expects Visit From Former Five-Star Transfer Portal Prospect

The Lane Train has arrived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as Lane Kiffin takes over as head coach of the LSU Tigers.

Kiffin joins LSU after an impressive six-season tenure with the Ole Miss Rebels. During his time there, Kiffin led the team to a remarkable 55-19 record, including three consecutive seasons with double-digit wins. This year, he guided Ole Miss to an 11-1 record, earning them their first berth in the College Football Playoff.

However, Kiffin was unable to continue coaching the Rebels during their playoff run. Instead, defensive coordinator Pete Golding was promoted to head coach and has successfully led the team to two playoff victories, advancing Ole Miss to the semifinals.

While his former team, which he built, is vying for a national championship, Kiffin is focused on transforming his new team into a contender. This process begins with the transfer portal, where 19 players from the Tigers have declared their intention to transfer. However, on Saturday, it was announced that Kiffin would be hosting one of the top players in the portal for a visit.

The player in question is former Florida Gators wide receiver Eugene “Tre” Wilson III. This former five-star prospect concluded his career at Florida with 1,043 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns over three seasons. He struggled with injuries, appearing in only 22 of a possible 37 games. According to Hayes Fawcett from On3, Wilson is expected to visit the Texas A&M Aggies this Saturday and Sunday before traveling to Baton Rouge.

If LSU is able to land Wilson, it would immediately reshape the Tigers’ offensive outlook. LSU’s receiver room has been hit hard by departures and adding a high-upside SEC playmaker could provide instant help for a passing attack that is expected to be central to Kiffin’s system.

Beyond the immediate depth boost, Wilson’s potential commitment would signal Kiffin’s intent to compete right away rather than treat 2026 as a full rebuild. Kiffin’s offenses have historically leaned on explosive receivers to stretch the field, and Wilson’s speed and route-running ability fit that mold. If healthy, he could quickly emerge as a primary option and help stabilize an offense undergoing major personnel changes.

Looking ahead, Wilson’s visits over the week could shape the next phase of LSU’s offseason.
