Lane Kiffin opened up about his decision to take the LSU football head coaching job over Florida during SEC meetings on Tuesday. He and his family visited both schools, but Kiffin chose the purple and gold in late November.

"A lot goes into these decisions," Kiffin said. "[The Gators] have a great program. It really was not about that. It really was about LSU and the belief I had in what we could do at LSU, and just how it fit and the timing of everything. It really wasn't about any other program. It was specifically about LSU."

Kiffin comes to Baton Rouge after six seasons at Ole Miss. He led the Rebels to four double-digit win seasons and a College Football Playoff appearance. He sent 23 players to the NFL Draft and signed four-straight top-six transfer portal classes.

The role in Oxford marked Kiffin's fourth stop as a head coach. It followed tenures at FAU, USC and Tennessee as well as a stint at Alabama under Nick Saban as the offensive coordinator.

When he came to a crossroads again, Kiffin decided between two storied programs, looking for a fresh start.

"There was a lot that went into it and a lot of conversations," Kiffin said. "[Florida is an] amazing program with great tradition and history. [I] just weighed everything out and made a decision. You're not going to please everybody in decisions."
