Head coach Lane Kiffin used an unusual practice setup to prepare LSU Tigers for its trip to Oxford ahead of the Ole Miss game. The Tigers practiced in front of students and fraternity members who simulated a loud road-game environment.
Kiffin will face his former team in Oxford for the first time since leaving Ole Miss for LSU after the 2025 season, and it seems this was a preparation tactic ahead of the crucial matchup.
Lane Kiffin prepares LSU for Ole Miss return in unconventional way
LSU’s preparation for the conference showdown included an unusual exercise designed to test players’ focus and composure. The session helped players adjust to crowd noise and outside pressure before the matchup. The students stood around the practice area and heckled LSU players as they walked through the crowd. Several students carried signs directed at LSU players.
Some of the signs in the video read “See you in court” and “Missing.” The “See you in court” sign was aimed at LSU defensive end Princewill Umanmielen. It was a reference to the $550,000 lawsuit Ole Miss filed involving Umanmielen. Ole Miss has alleged that Umanmielen broke his revenue-sharing agreement after leaving the school for LSU. LSU offensive lineman Devin Harper is also involved in the lawsuit.
The practice video was shown on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’. Coaches wanted players to stay composed while dealing with outside distractions, something that often becomes a factor in major conference matchups.
LSU running back Caden Durham also reacted to the scene during the video. After seeing the students surrounding the players and creating the loud atmosphere, Durham said, “Man, that’s crazy.”
Front Office Sports (@FOS) shared the video and wrote, “Lane Kiffin hired fraternity members to heckle LSU players at practice before the Ole Miss game.”
The drill became a talking point across college football because of the storyline surrounding Kiffin and his former program. Team staff used the exercise to test how players would respond when dealing with noise, criticism and unexpected distractions. Some signs referenced current storylines involving LSU players, while others were designed simply to create pressure during the workout.

During his tenure, Kiffin helped elevate Ole Miss into a regular contender in the SEC and on the national stage. In his final season, Ole Miss went 11-1 and reached the College Football Playoff. The coaching change became one of the biggest offseason developments in the conference and added extra intrigue to this matchup.
Now, No. 7 LSU and No. 8 Ole Miss will meet in the SEC opener. Both teams enter the game with 2-0 records. The matchup was played at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, giving Kiffin his first return to the field where he spent six seasons coaching Ole Miss. It is also the first time since 1962 that LSU and Ole Miss will meet while both are ranked in the AP Top 10.
Ole Miss has also increased security around the game. About 65–70 Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers will be on hand, along with a helicopter and a mobile command center. Ole Miss officials and coaches have also asked fans to show good sportsmanship during the game. University officials expect heightened interest throughout the weekend because of the national attention the game has generated.
Saturday’s contest carries added significance for both programs, with conference standings, national rankings and a major coaching storyline all drawing attention to the game. LSU’s players will now have to handle the crowd and stay focused in a major SEC matchup.
