LSU football missed on the nation's top wide receiver in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Five-star prospect Easton Royal flipped his commitment from Texas to Florida, according to a report from Rivals' Hayes Fawcett on Sunday.
Royal visited Gainesville on Saturday for the Week 6 game against South Carolina. His decision marks the end of a drawn-out recruiting process for Louisiana's top player. He committed to the Longhorns in November 2025 but remained open to other options.
After taking over at LSU in December 2025, head coach Lane Kiffin made Royal a priority. The Tigers hosted the pass catcher multiple times, and he had two visits to Baton Rouge scheduled for November. The Rivals Industry Ranking has the New Orleans native as the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2027 cycle.

Losing Royal will sting for LSU, as the purple and gold let the top player from its own backyard get away to an SEC rival. But the Tigers maintain a 2027 class that ranks No. 10 in the country and No. 5 in the SEC with 12 blue-chip commits.
