Texas A&M's third preseason practice took place on Saturday afternoon, and by all accounts, junior wide receiver Terry Bussey outright dominated after two years learning the position and finally looking like the five-star prospect that entered the program with an extremely bright future. However, injuries early in his career derailed his development, but one strong offseason should turn things around.
Returning for his second full starting season, redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed has reportedly looked the part over the last three practices, playing mistake-free football and connecting with Alabama transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton for one of his better layered throws of the week. While there isn't a competition, likely backup quarterback Brady Hart has also looked the part, outside of some minor accuracy issues.
Terry Bussey's rise is great news for an already loaded wide receiver room, led by junior Mario Craver, and if the revamped offensive line comes through, Marcel Reed will be throwing to one of the most talented wide receiver rotations in program history after passing for 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season.
If the Aggies want to make it back to the College Football Playoff for a second straight season, Reed will need to at least match his 2025 production and make better decisions late in games, especially when choosing to run. On Saturday, Reed unsurprisingly made On3 analyst Pete Nakos' "10 key quarterbacks to monitor" rankings, coming in at No. 10 ahead of the 2026 season.
"For all the success Marcel Reed has had, he still believes he has unfinished business at Texas A&M, he told On3 earlier this offseason. Key turnovers late in the season against Texas and Miami have stuck with him this offseason. Limiting turnovers will be critical for Reed to take the next step in his game. The offense will look slightly different this fall following offensive coordinator Collin Klein’s departure for the Kansas State head coaching job. Mike Elko tapped Holmon Wiggins as Klein’s successor; Wiggins has been on the Aggies’ staff for the previous two seasons. Reed will have a core of top-end receivers in Isaiah Horton, Mario Craver and Terry Bussey."
Leaving wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman out of the "top-end receivers" list doesn't make sense, but overall, Nakos nails it that Reed is fully focused on finishing the season strong, which means finally defeating Texas, and, if the Aggies make it back to the CFP, getting out of the first round.
