“Mensah Is Physically Ready”: Miami Hurricanes Transfer QB Darian Mensah Ready to Lead the Program to a Potential National Title in 2026

The Miami Hurricanes made the college football playoffs as an at-large team last season with a 10-2 overall record. Miami went all the way to the national title game under head coach Mario Cristobal before losing to the Indiana Hoosiers. The Hurricanes are back on the map and quarterback Carson Beck had a big year for them last season.

With Beck onto the NFL and on the Arizona Cardinals, the Hurricanes have a different starting quarterback for the third straight season. Quarterback Darian Mensah transferred from the Duke Blue Devils to Miami in the offseason. He led Duke to an ACC title last season. The Blue Devils did not make the playoffs, but Mensah is ready to be a big stage quarterback with the Hurricanes this upcoming college football season here.

Billy Tucker of espn.com listed the top newcomers for the 2026 college football season. Mensah is entering his junior year with Miami. Tucker said about him joining the Hurricanes after being with the Blue Devils a season ago,

” Mensah immediately elevates a quarterbacks room that lacked proven depth entering the offseason. After successfully adding Cam Ward and Carson Beck through the portal, Miami is hoping to go 3-for-3 with Mensah. Fresh off leading Duke to an ACC title, Mensah steps into an offense loaded with playmakers at receiver and running back. His arrival keeps the Hurricanes firmly in the national title conversation.”

Mensah is going to have a lot more talent around him at Miami compared to what he had at Duke. Tucker also said,

“Mensah is physically ready, poised and experienced, bringing proven production after throwing for 3,973 yards, 34 touchdowns and just six interceptions in 2025. He plays with efficiency and command while consistently showing the ability to manage and elevate the offense around him. Mensah is a proven winner and competitive presence who performs well in big moments. His reunion with former Duke receiver Cooper Barkate also provides continuity and chemistry. If Miami’s offensive line holds up, Mensah has the tools to guide one of the ACC’s most dangerous offenses.”

Miami is going to have an easy schedule for the upcoming 2026 college football season. There is a chance that they could be 12-0 in the regular season and get a top four seed in the college football playoffs. The Hurricanes have a lot of talent on this roster and will be one of the top teams in the country when the 2026 college football season kickoffs. If Mensah plays up to standards, then they could have a chance to go all the way here.
