Recruiting momentum is beginning to pick up for Michigan State football. And Pat Fitzgerald continues to build a pipeline to his home state.
The Spartans landed a commitment for 2027 from Henry Sakalas on Thursday, June 4, per his social media. The hybrid safety/linebacker from Chicago-area power Nazareth Academy in La Grange Park, Illinois, is a three-star prospect.
Sakalas is the third of the Spartans’ nine commitments from Illinois for 2027 in first-year coach Fitzgerald’s first full recruiting cycle since being hired late last year. His commitment comes a day after MSU picked up a pledge from three-star linebacker Matthew Brady from Bloomington, Illinois, and MSU also got a commit from edge rusher Ohimai Ozolua from Chicago in late April.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Sakalas is rated the No. 87 safety in the nation and 855th overall player according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings. He picked the Spartans over offers from Nebraska, Illinois, Minnesota and West Virginia, among others.
