The Miami Hurricanes are officially in offseason mode. Their season ended on Monday, losing to the Indiana Hoosiers 27-21 in the national championship game. Head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff now put a majority of their focus into building up the roster.
The transfer portal has been a valuable tool. According to On3, over 3,300 players have entered this year’s cycle. Miami has already been active, landing six players and seeing 17 departures. Its group currently ranks seventh in the ACC.
Another addition may soon bolster the class. On3’s Stephen Wagner logged an expert prediction for the Hurricanes to land former Missouri Tigers EDGE Damon Wilson II.
The 6-foot-4 and 250-pound junior appeared in 13 games for the Tigers in 2025. He racked up 23 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks, one interception, two pass deflections and one forced fumble. This was his first season with Missouri after spending 2023 and 2024 with the Georgia Bulldogs.
Coming out of high school in the 2023 cycle, Wilson was a five-star recruit, the No. 3 EDGE and the No. 20 player in the nation. He chose Georgia over the Ohio State Buckeyes, Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas Longhorns and even Miami. He has just one more year of eligibility.
He would be the Hurricanes’ third defensive addition through the portal, joining defensive lineman Jarquez Carter (Ohio State) and safety Omar Thornton (Boston College Eagles).
Miami’s pass rush in 2025 was elite, ranking first in the nation in sacks (50). However, the team is set to lose EDGEs Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor. Both rank within the top 32 of ESPN’s 2026 NFL Draft big board. Adding Wilson could ease the sting of these two losses.
