MIAMI, Fla. – Coming off a 41-13 win over Clemson at Death Valley (Memorial Stadium), the Miami Hurricanes stayed at No. 4 in the latest Associated Press’ Top 25 college football polling, which was released on Sunday afternoon.

The rest of the top five was the same: No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Notre Dame, and No. 5 Ohio State. Missouri made the biggest jump from No. 25 to 14, coming off a 45- 17 win over formerly No. 8 Florida, which resulted in the Gators having the biggest downgrade, dropping eight spots.

However, a case could be made for the Hurricanes to bump over Notre Dame. In Saturday’s 37-26 win over UNC, the Tar Heels made it a competitive game. They took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Although the Fighting Irish scored three unanswered touchdowns, the Tar Heels found the end zone before halftime to make it a one-possession game.

Starting the third quarter, UNC’s freshman wide receiver Jaden Jefferson returned Notre Dame freshman Micah Drescher’s 63-yard kickoff for 98 yards and a touchdown. The Tar Heels attempted a two-point conversion but failed and left the field down a point. The Fighting Irish responded with two unanswered touchdowns and a pair of field goals before leaving Kenan Stadium with the win.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes never trailed against Clemson and dominated for the majority of the game. The closest head coach Dabo Swinney and the Tigers came to the deficit was 14 points. However, Hurricanes freshman safety/nickelback JJ Dunnigan capped off the scoreboard with a 39-yard pick-six.

Unlike the last couple of times, zero AP voters left the Coral Gables program unranked on their ballots.

The Hurricanes have officially gone three consecutive seasons with a 5-0 start. Despite multiple injuries occurring to key players on Saturday, the team enters its bye week before returning to Hard Rock Stadium for an in-state rivalry clash against the Florida State Seminoles. The Hurricanes are in a great position to go undefeated in ACC play.

However, a big test comes in the midst of the schedule.

The Hurricanes are scheduled for another prime-time matchup, this time against Notre Dame at South Bend, Indiana, on Nov. 7. A win against a historic and ranked rival in a hostile environment would be extremely beneficial for a resume presentation to the College Football Playoff selection committee. The Hurricanes will have a week to heal before returning to business on the field.
