Welcome to the Recruiting Roundup, our three-times-per-week series breaking down the latest developments on the recruiting trail for the Michigan Wolverines. We’ll keep you up to date on the top targets, the visits they take, the predictions that analysts make, and everything in between. Here’s what you need to know today…

Michigan remains the team to beat for Cartae Ligon

Michigan continues to make a strong impression on one of the Midwest’s top playmakers.

2028 four-star athlete Cartae Ligon, ranked No. 141 nationally, returned to Ann Arbor for a camp recently and came away feeling even better about the Wolverines. Running backs coach Tony Alford has made Ligon one of Michigan’s top priorities in the class, and the relationship continues to grow.

“I just feel like, out of all the schools, they just show that they want me the most, and it just feels like home every time I go up there,” Ligon told The Wolverine. “They definitely treat me as a priority.”

Even with Michigan already high on him, Ligon wanted to compete in front of the coaching staff.

“Even though I’m No. 1 on his board doesn’t mean I can’t go up there and just work out and show them why they should want me even more.”

After rushing for more than 2,200 yards last season, Ligon plans to return for a game this fall, another encouraging sign for the Wolverines.

Michigan building momentum with Jace Montgomery

Another Ohio prospect to watch is offensive lineman Jace Montgomery. The No. 277 overall prospect in the 2028 class recently visited Ann Arbor after earning an offer this spring. He goes to Archbishop Moeller, the same school as running back Jordan Marshall. The Cincinnati native, whose father Jerry previously coached at Michigan, told On3 the visit reminded him why the Wolverines stand out.

“It was really good. We were there for like a whole day, so it was good to meet all the coaches and see Ann Arbor again.”

Montgomery also praised offensive line coach Jim Harding.

“He has a big past of developing guys at Utah.  A great guy, and I really like his coaching philosophy and what they do in the run game with all the zone and the variety of what they run. I think it’d be a really nice spot.”

Michigan emphasized Montgomery’s leadership at center, and he’ll “for sure” return for a game this fall.

Asa Burch already has another Michigan visit on the books

Michigan isn’t done hosting legacy edge rusher Asa Burch. The 2028 four-star standout has already scheduled a return trip to Ann Arbor for the Wolverines’ Week 2 showdown against Oklahoma, giving the coaching staff another chance to build on what’s becoming one of its strongest relationships in the 2028 class.

Burch, who is ranked No. 125 nationally and the No. 12 edge rusher in the Rivals Industry Rankings, recently spent two days on campus working with Michigan’s coaching staff. His father, former Wolverine Alfie Burch, came away impressed with what he saw during the visit.

“The attention to detail now is so powerful, and that in itself is going to win you games,” Alfie Burch told The Wolverine.

The family connection has always made Michigan a program to watch, but another game-day visit only reinforces the Wolverines’ position early in the recruitment. With multiple visits already under his belt and another one scheduled this fall, Michigan continues to put itself in a strong spot as Burch’s recruitment begins to take shape.
